Our Story
In 2016, my wife and I moved to Brodhead, WI to upgrade our gardening space. We didn't realize we were moving to a space with poor soil, infested with invasive European Buckthorn, honeysuckle, and burning bush. Over the years, we've worked with friends and neighbors to restore the land to a good state. Our gardening has evolved from annual vegetable growing to perennial fruit production, seed saving, and prairie/oak savannah restoration.
While learning these new skills, we realized it was often hard to source the plants/seeds we wanted. Some rarer seeds were always sold out, and many fruit trees and shrubs needed to be ordered from nurseries on the east and west coast, dramatically increasing costs due to shipping. Other local nurseries lacked variety or had pricing that discouraged people from jumping in and growing their own food.
We decided to turn this hobby into a business to address some of these problems and empower others to take part in reclaiming the food system from large corporations.
Our Promises
- We will minimize the use of sprays. While we do spray some of our apples to control Cedar Apple Rust, we never spray when the trees are in bloom or apply sprays directly to the fruit. Anything that goes into your body will never be sprayed.
- We will never accept sponsorships for anything on this website or on our social media.
- We will always be transparent about the sources of our seeds and plants.
- We will never sell GMO seeds.
- We will never sell out to a large, corporate-owned seed company. Smaller seed companies are an important part of preserving biodiversity, and we need to help keep it that way.
